About
Founded by three friends who met in Mozart’s Salzburg. With members from Portugal, Japan-Brazil, and France, the Trio Callas is celebrated for its unique expression, born from the coming together of different cultures.
In less than a year since its formation, the ensemble was awarded at the FNAPEC Competition in Paris and the Bacewicz Competition in Łódź. Based in Austria and active throughout Europe, the trio is regularly on tour in other continents, performing in countries such as Japan, Canada, the USA, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.
Currently under the guidance of Cibrán Sierra Vázquez (Cuarteto Quiroga) at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and supported by the “Yehudi Menuhin – Live Music Now” Foundation, the trio has worked with the Cuarteto Casals, Trio di Parma, Giovanni Gnocchi, Vienna Piano Trio, Benjamin Schmid, Connie Shih, and Thomas Riebl. They have also been mentored by Mischa Maisky, thanks to the sponsorship of the Stauffer Foundation.
In addition to the traditional repertoire, the group challenges the boundaries of genre and collaborates with artists beyond classical music whom they enjoy listening to. Most recently, the ensemble commissioned a composition from Brazilian multi-instrumentalist André Mehmari, which was premiered at a summer festival in Austria.
The trio’s debut CD project with ADS High-Fidelity, recorded in immersive 3D audio, will feature the complete piano trios by Mozart and Brahms alongside contemporary works that reflect the ensemble’s diverse identities. Volume I is set for release in March 2025.
